Electric Jet, LLC/Virginia Tech Hydrogen Research and Education Accomplishments

Assembled an engineering team for hydrogen gas turbine research:

  • Supported faculty, research engineer, research technician, and five graduate research assistant positions
  • Graduated four thesis masters students

Developed Hydrogen Combustion Technology:

  • Developed hydrogen combustion expertise
  • Designed and demonstrated Hydrogen-Fueled Gas Turbine
  • Designed and tested three low NOx premix nozzles (patents pending)
  • Fully characterized the premixers in the CSDL facility
  • Installed hydrogen storage and fuel supply system at the airport gas turbine lab
  • Constructed a unique test rig including a H2 gas turbine
  • Developed a digital engine and fuel system controller
  • Designed and tested a new hydrogen combustor geometry
  • Demonstrated our technology through successful engine operation with no CO2 and <1 ppm NOx
